Inspiration to help you find your own way

Dear Friend,
Light and shadow are constant companions, coloring our inner landscape. They are part of who we are and what we don’t want to be. They are often the struggle between what we recognize and what we avoid, what we let into our lives, what we ignore and what we don’t want to see. The balance between what we know and what we don’t want to know often feels difficult to realize. When we consciously walk the path of our best self, we come to accept the truth of the matter: we are made up light and shadows . "Both light and shadow are the dance of Love” Rumi There will always be an aspect of us that we don’t want to accept. Here lies our greatest opportunity for Self-Evolution; empowered living. Accepting the darker side of our lives may involve discomfort, but at the same time it can mean growth, change, self-acceptance, healing and empowerment. Not everything is light, nor does the light always light up our lives. Light sometimes blind us, when shadows may give us the answers we need. “Its not possible to awaken the conscious without pain. People are capable of doing anything, however absurd it may seem, to avoid facing their own soul. Nobody is enlightened by fantasizing about figures of light, but rather by becoming conscious of their dark side.” Carl Jung Our shadows contain all the negative aspects of our personality that our ego is not always ready to accept, including frustrations, shameful or painful experiences, and fears or insecurities that were stored in our subconscious. These block us from living in a genuine way, and leave us unable to express our true feelings, live an empowered life and be fully expressed. Maliciousness, selfishness, envy, cowardice, jealousy, greed and many other dark emotions and fears stalk our lives and lead us into conflict with other people, while creating tension and discomfort in our bodies, minds and overall wellbeing. If left unattended to, they can develop into feelings of guilt or even bouts of depression and disease. In these states we are not always aware of the image we transmit to others and can project these shadows onto others, because we can’t accept that these feelings, thoughts or ideas belong to us. Like me, many of us were conditioned in childhood to hide any negative, weak or vulnerable parts of ourselves. The result of not clearly seeing and accepting our shadows is we can become blinded by our own light. The light energy that we are made up of - the resonance that surrounds and shines out from our inner being - are all those qualities, virtues, emotions, behaviors and desires that we like to show others. It becomes easy to wear them like a mask all the time, as if they were our real identity. We choose how we project ourselves to others in our work, community lives and social media, etc. It appears we live a second life, in which the shadows not only hide, but also seem to not even exist. What at first feels like a good thing and a way of protecting ourselves from the despairs of our lives becomes thesource for habitual drama, anxiety, negative experiences, confusion, and often despair. That’s why it’s important to know our shadows, they can help to keep an inner balance. We are fallible, we feel dark emotions AND yet we can grow and empower ourselves. We are not perfect; self-evolution teaches us the only perfect thing about being human is that we are perfectly imperfect. “ All the beauty of life is made up of shadow and light” Leo Tolstoy Are you keeping your shadow and light in balance?
